Yes, the generational history of the SsangY ong Korando.
For those not in the know, the original SsangYong Korando was a license-built Jeep CJ-7 introduced in 1988. An all-new second generation came out in 1996, and was discontinued in 2006. In 2010, the name was brought back on a completely unrelated crossover, notable for being the model that ended SsangYong’s ugly streak. And a new one came out last year.
Usually these types of photos are taken with iconic long running models like the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the idea of SsangYong thinking their model is in similar leagues is kinda hilarious. Also the new Korandos were just given the name of a previous SsangYong model, and have no real connection between, and this shoot just emphasises the obvious disconnect. It also makes the new models look way lamer in comparison to the older ones.
I’m still glad they did this shoot though.

Why are the pictures in Spain (I see the Joop has the pre-EU plates that had the province of registration, Madrid in this case, and the new one has the registration Spain uses now ) I thought the company wasn’t Spanish....

Did they forget about the third generation in the header image and have to photoshop it in afterwards?

I think this shoot was a product of Ssangyong’s marketing department in Spain. I’m not even sure they sold the original Korandos in Spain.

Haha, no. That would be the cherry on top of sadness though.

That newest one looks like a Mitsubishi Blazer

I wouldn’t even bother to show the lineage at that point! It’s so obvious that they truly don’t give a damn

I would argue that the Mitsubishi Eclipse lineage is much sadder.

It’s indicative of such an on/off company. We saw the second generation Korando here in Oz for a short while and we are certainly slated to get the new one.
Unfortunately, Mahindra & Mahindra (current majority owner) isn’t interested in putting more coin into the company and our local distribution model (uniquely for SsangYong) is factory supported. Couple that with a cryptic approach to model packaging and marketing and chuck a Covid economy in on top...and they aren’t doing great here. Shame... because they are making very good cars.

Interesting how similar the Trailblazer looks to the Korando. I don’t know the exact timeline, but the Korando came out a few months before the Trailblazer. Not looking good for GM.
